Buying advice

The short answer

Audible is good value if you finish at least one audiobook a month and like listening while you drive, walk, exercise or do chores. It is less good value if you listen occasionally, because Standard monthly selections do not roll over.

How much does Audible cost in the UK?

  • Audible Standard: £5.99 a month, per Amazon.co.uk and Audible.co.uk. At the time of writing, Amazon offers eligible new members £0.99 a month for the first 3 months (offer ends 28 December 2026).
  • Audible Premium: £8.99 a month, per Audible.co.uk's plans page.

How Standard selections work

Standard members select 1 audiobook a month from the whole collection. You can listen to selected titles for as long as you are a member. If you miss a month, the selection does not roll over. If you cancel, Standard selections are locked until you rejoin.

How Premium credits work

Audible says Premium members get 1 credit a month, and every audiobook costs 1 credit no matter how long it is or what its list price is. Audiobooks bought with a credit are yours to keep, even if you cancel. Credits roll over up to a maximum of 6, but they expire if you cancel the membership. Premium also includes an all-you-can-listen catalogue and member-only sales.

Pros

  • One full audiobook a month for less than the buy price of many new releases. For example, The Impossible Fortune by Richard Osman was £13.57 to buy outright on Amazon UK on 14 October 2026.
  • Unlimited podcasts are included.
  • Listen offline in the app, wherever you are.
  • Cancel monthly, according to Amazon's offer page.

Cons

  • Standard selections are only yours while you remain a member.
  • Unused Standard selections do not roll over.
  • Premium credits expire when you cancel, so use them first.
  • After the offer, it renews automatically at the full monthly price.

Can you cancel any time?

Amazon says you can cancel monthly. If you joined on the website, Audible says you can manage your membership from Account details or via customer service. If you joined through an app store, cancel there. Audible's terms say no refund is given for membership fees already paid once a trial period has ended.

Who Audible suits best

Commuters, drivers, runners, dog walkers, new parents doing night feeds, and anyone who wants to read more but struggles to find time. If you only want one specific book, buying it outright may make more sense.

Our verdict

For most UK listeners, trying Audible Standard at the current offer price is a low-risk way to find out whether you listen enough to justify £5.99 a month afterwards. Set a reminder before month three ends and decide then. For ideas, see our best audiobooks for Christmas.
