Our top picks
Best overall: Infantino Flip Advanced 4-in-1 Baby Carrier (£24.99). A carrier lets a new dad keep the baby close while having his hands free for walks, errands or a cup of tea. The Amazon UK listing says it has an adjustable ergonomic seat, shoulder straps and a waist belt that shifts weight to the wearer's hips, converts between four carrying positions and can be used from newborn to toddler, 3.6kg to 14.5kg. Always follow Infantino's instructions on which positions suit which age.
Best budget: Pocket Commando Dad by Neil Sinclair (£7.65). A compact, practical guide written for new fathers, covering birth to 12 months in a military-briefing style. It is small enough to keep in a changing bag and a good light-hearted present alongside something practical.
Best for families: Dreamegg D11MAX Portable White Noise Machine (£22.53). Better sleep benefits the whole household. The listing says it has 21 soothing sounds, adjustable volume, custom timers, a child lock, a memory function and an 1800mAh rechargeable battery that Dreamegg says lasts through overnight sleep and daytime naps on one charge, so it also works on the go.
Other Christmas gifts for new dads
Tommee Tippee Electric Baby Nail File (£13.29). Trimming tiny nails is a nerve-racking job for many new parents. The listing says it comes with three baby filing heads (ultra-fine for 0 to 3 months, fine for 3 to 12 months and medium for 12 months plus), three adult heads, two speeds with forward and reverse rotation, a gentle LED light and a storage case.
Contigo Byron Snapseal Travel Mug, 470ml (£9.00). For coffee that stays hot when the baby has other plans. Contigo says it is leakproof, opens and closes with one hand, keeps drinks hot for up to 7 hours or cold for up to 12, and fits most car cup holders.
The New Dad's Survival Guide by Rob Kemp (£13.89). A guide to what to expect in the first year and beyond, for dads who want more detail than a pocket guide.
What to look for in a Christmas gift for a new dad
Practical first. New dads spend the first months carrying, soothing, feeding and changing, so gifts that help with those jobs get used every day.
Check sizes and ages. Baby carriers list weight ranges and which positions suit which ages. The Infantino carrier is listed for 3.6kg to 14.5kg; always follow the manufacturer's guidance.
Sleep helps everyone. White noise machines are popular with parents. Look at the number of sounds, timers and whether it runs on a battery, and keep the volume low and the machine away from the cot.
Something for him. A good travel mug or a book written for fathers is a nice personal touch alongside baby kit.
Bundle a small kit. Pocket Commando Dad, the travel mug and the nail file together came to £29.94 at the prices checked.

Frequently asked questions
What to buy a new dad for Christmas?
Practical gifts that help with the first months work well, such as a baby carrier, a white noise machine, a baby nail file, a leakproof travel mug or a book written for new fathers. Picks in this guide ranged from £7.65 to £24.99 on Amazon UK when checked on 12 October 2026.
When can baby go in a carrier?
Many carriers can be used from birth if the baby meets the minimum weight and the carrier is fitted correctly, but it varies by model. The Infantino Flip Advanced in this guide is listed for babies from 3.6kg to 14.5kg. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions, especially for front-facing and back positions.
Is white noise safe for babies?
White noise is widely used to help babies settle, but keep the volume low and place the machine well away from the cot rather than right next to the baby's head. Use a timer if you do not want it running all night, and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
How to cut newborn nails?
Newborn nails are soft, so many parents file them with a baby emery board or an electric baby nail file rather than cutting them, or use rounded baby nail scissors or clippers. It is easiest when the baby is asleep or calm, in good light. The Tommee Tippee file in this guide includes an ultra-fine head for 0 to 3 months, according to the listing.
