What to look for in a Christmas gift for a baby

The age on the listing. Every product here shows an age range or suggested age on its Amazon UK listing. Check it matches the baby's age now, not the age they will be next year.

Small parts. Toys with removable pieces are usually marked for older babies. Follow the age guidance and any warnings on the listing and packaging.

Teething. Babies put almost everything in their mouths. A teether such as Sophie la girafe is designed to be chewed, and Freddie the Firefly includes a pull-out teether, according to its listing.

Batteries and noise. The Puppy's Remote uses batteries (included, according to the listing) and plays sounds. Most of the other gifts here need no batteries, which some parents prefer.

Books. Board books and foldout books are sturdy for small hands. Touch-and-feel and black-and-white books are popular first books for babies.

Space and clutter. Parents of young babies are often short on space, so a small toy or book can be a better gift than a large play gym or ride-on.

Budget. The gifts here cost between £4.00 and £26.80 when we checked on 29 October 2026.

Delivery date. Check the delivery date on Amazon so the gift arrives before Christmas.

How we chose these picks

We only included products that were in stock on Amazon UK with a single live buy-box price in pounds when we checked on 29 October 2026, read with a UK delivery address. We skipped listings showing low stock, no stock line or unclear details, and we avoided repeating products already featured in our other guides. Specs in the comparison table come from each product's Amazon UK listing, and a dash means the listing does not state that detail. Descriptions are based on what each listing says; we have not tested these products ourselves, and we have not used star ratings or review counts.
