Window insulation film is a cheap, temporary way to add a secondary glazing effect to draughty single-glazed or older windows.

Prices checked on Amazon UK, 27 October 2026.

Window insulation film is a cheap, temporary way to add a secondary glazing effect to draughty single-glazed or older windows. You stick double-sided tape around the frame, press the clear film onto it, then warm it with a hairdryer so it shrinks tight and leaves a layer of still air between the film and the glass. It comes off at the end of winter, so it suits renters too. The main differences between kits are how much film you get, whether tape is included and what the film is made of, so the table below lists each from the Amazon UK listing. We found 7 window insulation films and kits in stock on Amazon UK with a live buy-box price when we checked on 27 October 2026. Our overall pick is the tesamoll Thermo Cover Window Insulating Film, 4m x 1.5m at £13.49, the budget pick is the Rysons Window Insulation Kit, Shrink Film with Double Sided Tape at £3.74, and our pick for big windows is the fowong Window Insulation Kit, 1.6m x 10m POF Shrink Film at £15.99. Prices and stock change often, so check both on Amazon before you buy.

Buying advice

Our top picks

Best overall: tesamoll Thermo Cover Window Insulating Film, 4m x 1.5m (£13.49). A 4m x 1.5m sheet with double-sided tape included. The listing says you smooth and stretch it with warm air from a hairdryer, and claims it can save up to 8% of energy used and reduce condensation on the pane.

Best budget: Rysons Window Insulation Kit, Shrink Film with Double Sided Tape (£3.74). The cheapest kit here: a 1.57m x 1.82m roll of shrink film plus double-sided tape, which the listing says covers up to two windows of about 1m x 1.5m.

Best for big windows: fowong Window Insulation Kit, 1.6m x 10m POF Shrink Film (£15.99). A long 1.6m x 10m roll of POF (polyolefin) film for several windows, doors or conservatory panels, according to the listing.

Other window insulation films worth a look

Stormguard 6 Sq m Secondary Glazing Window Insulation Film (£10.00). Six square metres of film (4015 x 1524mm) with self-adhesive fixing tape included. The listing says it can be cut to size.

SOL Window Insulation Kit, Clear Thermal Film 1.5m x 4m (£5.49). A 1.5m x 4m clear film at 0.18mm thick, according to the listing, which also says it reduces condensation in winter.

Stormguard 12 Sq m Conservatory Glazing Window Insulation Film (£17.99). Twice the film of the 6 sq m Stormguard kit, aimed at conservatories, with self-adhesive fixing tape. It can be cut to size.

Yotache Window Insulation Kit, 2.4m x 10m POF Shrink Film (£17.99). The widest roll here at 2.4m x 10m, with three rolls of double-sided tape and instructions included, according to the listing.

How much film do you need?

Measure each window frame and add a few centimetres on every side for the tape. A single sheet such as the tesamoll 4m x 1.5m or the SOL 1.5m x 4m covers one large window or a couple of small ones. The Rysons kit (£3.74) is sized for up to two windows of about 1m x 1.5m. For a whole house or a conservatory, a 10m roll such as the fowong (£15.99) or Yotache (£17.99), or the 12 sq m Stormguard pack (£17.99), works out better than several small kits.

Not every kit includes tape. The tesamoll, Rysons, Stormguard and Yotache listings say tape is included; where a listing does not say, the table shows a dash, so check before you order.

What to look for in window insulation film

Film size. Compare the film size in the table with your window measurements, allowing extra for the tape border.

Tape. Double-sided tape that holds well on your frames matters as much as the film. Check that it is included.

Shrink film. Most kits are tightened with a hairdryer after fitting, which removes wrinkles and leaves a clear finish.

Indoors only. These films are fitted to the inside of the window frame. Clean and dry the frame first so the tape sticks.

Opening windows. Film seals the window shut until you remove it, so leave at least one window in each room you can open for ventilation.

Claims. Energy saving and condensation figures on listings are the seller's own claims, not something we have tested.

How we chose these picks

We only included products that were in stock on Amazon UK with a single live buy-box price in pounds when we checked on 27 October 2026, read with a UK delivery address. We skipped listings showing low stock, no stock line or unclear details, and we avoided repeating products already featured in our other guides. Specs in the comparison table come from each product's Amazon UK listing, and a dash means the listing does not state that detail. Descriptions are based on what each listing says; we have not tested these products ourselves, and we have not used star ratings or review counts.

Frequently asked questions

Is window insulation film worth it?

It can be a cheap way to cut draughts from single-glazed or older windows over winter, with kits here from £3.74. The tesamoll listing claims savings of up to 8% of energy used. It is a temporary fix, not a replacement for double glazing.

How do you install window insulation film?

Clean and dry the window frame, stick double-sided tape around it, press the film onto the tape, then trim the excess and warm the film with a hairdryer so it shrinks tight. That is the method described on the tesamoll, Rysons and similar listings.

Does window insulation film stop condensation?

Several listings say it reduces condensation on the glass, including tesamoll, SOL and Yotache. These are the sellers' claims, and ventilation still matters, so keep at least one window you can open in each room.

Does window insulation film need to be tight?

Yes. Shrink films are meant to be pulled tight with warm air from a hairdryer after fitting, which the Rysons listing describes as shrinking and tightening the film for a clear finish.
