What to look for in a Christmas gift for a train lover
Check their gauge. Most British model railways use OO gauge, so confirm what they run before buying a set or accessories. The Hornby set here is OO gauge.
Match the gift to their age. Wooden railways like BRIO suit young children, while Hornby sets, books and jigsaws suit older children and adults.
Think about their interest. Some fans love steam history, others love modelling or travelling on the railways, so choose a gift that matches their passion.
Choose gifts that can grow. Train sets can be expanded with extra track and accessories, making it easy to add to them on future birthdays.
Pick winter-friendly activities. Puzzle books and jigsaws make relaxing gifts for long evenings over the festive break.
Consider a day out. Many train lovers also enjoy visiting heritage railways and railway museums, so a book about railway history can pair nicely with a trip in the new year.
Bundle a set. For the Love of Trains, The Train Lover's Puzzle Book and the Gibsons jigsaw together came to £41.05 at the prices checked.
