Christmas gifts for teaching assistants work best when they are small, personal and clearly meant for the TA, not just a spare teacher present.
Prices checked on Amazon UK, 31 October 2026.
Christmas gifts for teaching assistants work best when they are small, personal and clearly meant for the TA, not just a spare teacher present. Teaching assistants, classroom assistants and learning support assistants run reading groups, interventions and playground duties, and the gifts in this guide all say teaching assistant or TA on them, or are made for the job, like a TA planner for intervention groups. Most cost under £11, which suits a gift from one child, a small class collection or a thank-you from the class teacher. Schools have their own rules on gifts from families, and some say no cash or vouchers, so we have kept to small items and explain the rules in the FAQ below. The key details for each product come from its Amazon UK listing, and the comparison table shows type, size and material at a glance. If you are also buying for the class teacher, see our Christmas gifts for teachers and nursery teachers guides, and our Secret Santa gifts for work colleagues guide if you work alongside a TA. We found 9 gifts for teaching assistants in stock on Amazon UK with a live buy-box price when we checked on 31 October 2026. Our overall pick is the Me To You Tatty Teddy Bone China Mug for a Teaching Assistant at £9.98, the budget pick is the Flox Creative 'Teachers Need Heroes Too' Teaching Assistant Pin Badge, 25mm at £3.00, and our pick for busy TAs is the Teaching Assistant Planner at £10.79. Prices and stock change often, so check both on Amazon before you buy.

Our top picks
Best overall: Me To You Tatty Teddy Bone China Mug for a Teaching Assistant (£9.98). A mug is one of the most common TA gifts, and this one is clearly made for a teaching assistant rather than a teacher. The listing says the side reads 'Behind every good teacher is a great teaching assistant', with Tatty Teddy holding a school satchel, books and an apple under a Thank You banner. It is new bone china, the details list a capacity of 330 ml, a size of 14.2 x 11.8 cm and say it is microwave safe, and it comes in a Me To You Signature Collection gift box, so it is ready to hand over.
Best budget: Flox Creative 'Teachers Need Heroes Too' Teaching Assistant Pin Badge, 25mm (£3.00). The cheapest gift here and a fun one for a lanyard, coat or bag. The listing gives the wording as 'I'm a teaching assistant because teachers need heroes too!' on a small 25mm badge (the size we priced). It has a metal front, a plastic back and a safety pin, and the seller says items are made to order. Note that this seller charges delivery, so check the total at checkout.
Best for busy TAs: Teaching Assistant Planner (£10.79). A practical gift for a TA who covers several classes or runs small groups. The description says this planner is made for teaching assistants, with sections for schedules, intervention groups, INSET days and notes. The details list 73 pages at 21.59 x 27.94 cm (close to A4) and a weight of 249 g, and it was independently published on 15 July 2024. Check the listing photos on Amazon if you want to see the page layout first.
More Christmas gifts for teaching assistants
SMARTYPANTS 'Behind Every Teacher is a Great Teaching Assistant' Tote Bag (£10.99). A tote bag is always useful for a TA carrying books, marking and lunch between classrooms. This one is printed with 'Behind Every Teacher is a Great Teaching Assistant'. The listing says it is 100% cotton at 140gsm, measures 38 x 42cm with a 10 litre capacity and 67cm handles, and we priced the Natural bag with red handles.
RED OCEAN 'Best Teaching Assistant' Christmas Bauble (£4.99). A Christmas-only gift that can come out every December. The title reads 'Merry Christmas To The Best Teaching Assistant', and the listing says the bauble is 80 x 100 mm, made from wood, printed and handmade in England, and comes gift packed with a hanging cord.
Treasure Bags Teaching Assistant Survival Kit (£3.99). A light-hearted gift that works as a card and a present in one. The listing describes a red organza bag of 13 x 16 cm with 13 small items, each paired with a message on linen card explaining what it stands for, written for teaching assistants.
Mermaid Mary's Christmas Wish Bracelet for a Teaching Assistant (£3.95). A small handmade gift for a child to give. The listing says it is a Christmas wish bracelet for a teaching assistant with a Tibetan silver charm on a waxed cotton cord, about 30cm long and adjustable to fit most wrists, handmade in the UK and sent with a keepsake gift card.
Teaching Assistant Notebook: Behind Every Great Teaching Assistant is a LONG To-Do List! (£5.51). A cheerful notebook for a TA who keeps lists. The description says it has 50 pages of blank to-do lists, and the details list a size of 15.24 x 22.86 cm and a weight of 127 g. It was independently published on 28 November 2024.
TTOVEN Teaching Assistant Acrylic Plaque (£4.99). A small desk or shelf plaque to say thank you. The listing says it is clear acrylic with smooth edges, 8 x 9.5 cm and 0.05 kg. It also says the text is printed on the back and the front has a clear protective film, which should be peeled off before display so the words can be read clearly.
Gifts from one child
For a gift from a single child, the badge (£3.00), the wish bracelet (£3.95) and the bauble (£4.99) are all under £5, leaving room for a handwritten card, which TAs often say they value most.
Gifts from the whole class
If parents are clubbing together, the Me To You mug (£9.98) with the tote bag (£10.99) makes a bigger present that still stays modest. Check the school's gifts policy first, as some set a limit per family or per collection.
Gifts from the class teacher
Teachers buying for their own TA often choose something useful for the job. The Teaching Assistant Planner (£10.79) has sections for intervention groups and INSET days, and the to-do list notebook (£5.51) or survival kit (£3.99) adds a light-hearted touch.
What to look for in a Christmas gift for a teaching assistant
Make it clearly for the TA. Teaching assistants often get the same gifts as the teacher, so a mug, bauble or bag that names their role shows you noticed what they do.
Keep it small. Most TAs say they do not expect a gift, and many schools set limits on gifts from families. Every gift in this guide cost between £3.00 and £10.99 when we checked on 31 October 2026.
Avoid cash and vouchers unless you know they are allowed. Some school policies say staff must not accept cash, gift vouchers or Amazon tokens, so a small item and a card is the safer choice.
Add a handwritten card. A short note from the child about something the TA helped with is the gift many TAs remember longest.
Check delivery and personalisation. The pin badge is made to order and its seller charges delivery, so check the total and the delivery date on Amazon so the gift arrives before the last day of term.
How we chose these picks
We only included products that were in stock on Amazon UK with a single live buy-box price in pounds when we checked on 31 October 2026, read with a UK delivery address. We skipped listings showing low stock, no stock line or unclear details, and we avoided repeating products already featured in our other guides. Specs in the comparison table come from each product's Amazon UK listing, and a dash means the listing does not state that detail. Descriptions are based on what each listing says; we have not tested these products ourselves, and we have not used star ratings or review counts.
Prices were checked on Amazon UK on 31 October 2026 and can change at any time. Check the current price, details and delivery date on Amazon before you order.
Frequently asked questions
What to buy a teaching assistant?
A small gift that names their role, plus a card, is a good choice. This guide has 9 ideas from £3.00 when we checked on 31 October 2026, including a teaching assistant mug, a Christmas bauble, a tote bag and a TA planner. Twinkl asked teaching assistants about gifts, and most said they did not expect one and that a handwritten note or card meant the most.
What to buy a male teaching assistant?
Pick gifts that are not gendered, such as a mug, a tote bag, a planner or a notebook. In this guide the Me To You mug (£9.98), the SMARTYPANTS tote (£10.99), the Teaching Assistant Planner (£10.79) and the to-do list notebook (£5.51) all suit any TA, and the pin badge (£3.00) is a fun extra for a lanyard.
Can teachers accept gifts from students in the UK?
Yes, small gifts are usually fine, but each school sets its own rules. The Department for Education has said it is for the headteacher and governing body or local authority to decide whether staff may accept gifts from pupils and parents. School policies often set a value limit, for example £20, £30 or £35, and many say staff must never accept cash. The same rules usually cover teaching assistants.
Is it OK to give a teacher a gift card?
It depends on the school, and some school policies do not allow them. For example, Discovery Educational Trust's policy says staff must never accept cash or monetary gifts such as Amazon tokens or gift vouchers. Check your school's gifts policy or ask the office before giving a gift card to a teacher or TA.
What to write in a teaching assistant Christmas card?
Keep it short, personal and specific. Thank them by name, mention one thing they helped your child with this term, and wish them a happy Christmas. Teaching assistants asked by Twinkl said a handwritten note or card was the most meaningful thank you, and many keep them for years.
