Best overall: Rhinegold Grooming Bag with Kit (£28.04). A complete grooming set in a matching carry bag. Rhinegold says it includes a flexible body brush, a dandy brush, a mane comb, a hoof pick, a mane and tail brush and a sweat scraper, all with soft-touch handles.
Best budget: NAF Blueberry & Banana Horse Treats, 1kg (£3.99). Natural, low-sugar treats that NAF describes as laminitis-friendly, ideal as a training reward or a stocking filler for the horse itself.
Best for families: DK The Horse Encyclopedia (£21.33). The definitive visual guide to breeds, history and horse care from DK, with plenty of photographs to pore over together. Great for younger riders and adults alike.
Other Christmas gifts for horse lovers
Lezevn Horse Hoof Pick Brushes, 3 Pack (£7.99). Three striped hoof picks with brushes, in random colours, for cleaning hooves before and after riding. Handy to keep spares in the car, the tack box and the grooming bag.
Worry Less Design "Loves Horses, Tolerates Humans" Mug (£11.99). A 330ml ceramic mug with a cheeky slogan, ideal for a cup of tea at the yard or as a Secret Santa gift.
Ravensburger Horsing Around Jigsaw, 500 Pieces (£10.99). A light-hearted "selfie" of a group of horses, made with Ravensburger's thick card. It measures 49 x 36cm when complete and is suitable for ages 10 and up.
What to look for in a Christmas gift for a horse lover
Owner or fan? Grooming kits, hoof picks and treats suit people who own or care for a horse, while books, mugs and jigsaws suit any horse fan.
Check treats with the owner. Some horses are on special diets, so low-sugar treats are a safer choice. If unsure, ask before giving any treats.
Avoid fitted kit. Rugs, saddles, bridles, hats and body protectors need proper sizing and fitting, so it is better to leave those to the rider.
Think about the yard. Spares of everyday items such as hoof picks and brushes always come in handy.
Make it personal. A photo of their horse in a frame, alongside one of these gifts, makes a thoughtful extra touch.
Bundle a set. The treats, the hoof picks and the mug together came to £23.97 at the prices checked.

Frequently asked questions
What are good gifts for horse lovers?
Good gifts for horse lovers include a grooming kit, horse treats, a horse book, hoof picks, a horse-themed mug and a horse jigsaw. Picks in this guide ranged from £3.99 to £28.04 on Amazon UK when checked on 12 October 2026.
What treats can horses eat?
Many horses enjoy commercial horse treats as well as small amounts of carrot and apple. Feed treats in moderation, and check with the owner first, as horses with conditions such as laminitis may need low-sugar treats or none at all.
How to groom a horse for beginners?
A basic routine is to pick out the hooves, use a curry comb in circles to loosen dirt, flick it away with a dandy brush, then finish with a body brush. Gently comb the mane and tail last. Ask an experienced person or instructor to show you the first time.
